About the Workshop:
The second edition of the Roman Frontiers ECR Workshop will be organized by the Roman Frontiers Early Career Researchers Network, the Römisch-Germanische Kommission of the DAI, and Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz and held 27-31 July 2026 at the RGK in Frankfurt, Germany.
The workshop will offer research development, networking opportunities, and unparalleled resources for work on Roman frontiers. The mornings will have 30 minute presentations by workshop participants, moderated by an international panel of frontiers scholars, with time for discussion. The workshop afternoons will have uninterrupted time in the RGK Library, which holds the most extensive collection of frontier publications in Europe. There will also be a field trip to Mainz, with visits to the LEIZA as well as the Roman sites.
The workshop can provide accommodation at the RGK and contribute to travel costs up to €250 for a limited number of participants. Those who are local or those who can support their own travel and accommodation are also welcome to apply, and should indicate so in their application.
Participation is by application, due 15 March 2026. Participants should be writing their PhD dissertation or in an early (within 6 years of degree) postdoctoral stage of their career.
