Maria is a PhD student in Roman archaeology at The University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. She is currently a research assistant and artist for the Vindolanda Archaeological Leather Project (VALP) and a research assistant for the Illuminating the Vindolanda Stylus Tablets Project. She fell in love with Vindolanda in 2019 when she participated in an undergraduate field school there, and ever since her research has involved working with the leather footwear assemblage at the site museum. Her research focuses on the application of 3D imaging and digital science in classical archaeology, particularly 3D imaging the leather footwear from Vindolanda. She is also interested in Roman provincial archaeology, funerary art and archaeology, constructions of identities in the Roman provinces, and bioarchaeology.
