I am a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland, Australia, researching wooden personal items from the Roman Imperial period. I am interested in the role these objects played in the daily lives of sub-elite individuals living in the Roman provinces and frontiers, and what their decoration can reveal about personal expressions of socio-cultural identity and status.

Keywords: wood, personal items, cosmetics, status, identity, Roman women and children
