My recent research explores the idea that developments in scientific knowledge are best regarded primarily as the result of networks and collaborations between shifting groups of individuals over time, rather than simply the achievement of a succession of ‘great’ figures (historically often high-status men occupying institutional positions). The aim of this approach is to produce a more complex, truthful and inclusive version of disciplinary history.
